My early years in New Jersey Theater

It really began with the role of "Littlechap" in

STOP THE WORLD, I WANT TO GET OFF

I first performed this play with my own theater company,
Theater World Four, in 1965.
(no photo)
Then in 1970 I did the play at Actor's Cafe, with Lisa Minogue

Then later I played the role for the opening season of
Celebration Playhouse in Roselle Park, in 1974
with Judi Adams (below)

In 1966 at Theater World Four, I was able to do Anthony Newley's other hit,
ROAR OF THE GREASEPAINT, SMELL OF THE CROWD
playing "Sir" to Reynolds Callender's "Cocky"

The next leading role I was able to play was "Pseudolus" in

A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM

I first performed this play at Actor's Cafe, in 1973.
It was the first time I was directed by Gary Cohen,
beginning our long collaboration.

Then I did the second production as "Pseudolus" at Celebration Playhouse, in 1975
with Gary Cohen, Tommy Phillips and Paul Kaye

Then came "Cervantes/Don Quixote" in

MAN OF LA MANCHA

With Gary Cohen as my Sancho.

This was the opening play when

Celebration Playhouse
moved to Cranford, in 1975

The second time I got to play
the Don was at
Circle Players, in 1986

Juicy "starring roles" are fun, but to me you can't beat the experience of an Ensemble Play.
Here is the best damn set of ensemble actors I've ever worked with, in

THAT CHAMPION SEASON
at Celebration Playhouse, in 1978

Just about to be slapped silly by
the great Bill Toddie

The rest of the team:
Dennis Boyne, Bob O'Keefe and Oscar Stokes

Another phenomenal Ensemble piece at Celebration Playhouse, in 1976
was
MARAT/deSADE

Duperé (top center) was one of the most bizarre
and enjoyable characters I've ever played

Here with Amy Epstein as Charlotte Corday

Two Ensemble Musicals:

DAMES AT SEA
Celebration Playhouse, 1974

with Neil Cerbone and Mark Gerstein

WORKING
Actor's Cafe, 1981

with Oscar Stokes and Todd Fenstermacher

in my favorite role, "George"

Perhaps, my favorite play,

WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINA WOOLF

with my favorite actress, Linda Herman
playing "Martha"

and below are more plays I did with Linda:

"Eliot" and "Amanda" in
PRIVATE LIVES

"King Henry II" and "Elenore" in
A LION IN WINTER
(with Neil Cerbone as Prince Phillip)

Playing the fictional version of
John Barrymore
in

THE ROYAL FAMILY

was one of those Ensemble experiences
I'll never forget.

with David Munro and Daryl Cobb

Lisa Cohen, Gary Cohen, Joan Lonsdorf
  and Linda Herman

Mortimer (Paul Daniels)

What play have I been
involved with the most?

THE FANTASTICKS

First time I played Henry, at Circle Players.
With John Menter, Roger-John Leach,

Again Henry at Circle Players

Elizabeth Rzasa, Michael Stratton

Two delightfully "campy" roles, at Celebration

"Herod" in JESUS CHRIST, SUPERSTAR
1975

"Juan" in EL GRANDE de COCA COLA
1976

No doubt,
the most challenging role of my life
was "Sweeney"

Here with the remarkable Lisa Cohen (Hanna)
as Mrs. Lovettt

in

SWEENEY TODD
at Unicorn Players, 1984

and Tom Devaney as Toby

Three plays that originated in "The Acting Studio"

Performed at NJPT in 1983, an All-Studio production and one of my favorite roles,
the pathetic, non-actor "George" in
