If I had to pick a favorite country, and one I would love to return to, it would be Thailand.

Tours were suggested for Bangkok, so our day trip took us to three temples, including the Grand Palace.

.

This is the large “Golden Buddha” in the first level,

but not the main one.

The picture of the King, and all Thai tourists
wanted their photo with him.

This one is smaller but solid gold.

Religious objects sold all along this street.

The only elephant I saw in town.

Note the pink taxi – they were everywhere.

Is this a great topiary, or what?

The highlight of the whole trip was this enormous complex of temples and buildings.

Utterly beautiful!

I asked for the elephant patterned pants.

The entire inner walls of the complex were covered with

intricate paintings of the history of Thailand.

This kind of detail was on every inch of the buildings.

This was the last place in the Grand Temple grounds that we were able to see.

I would love to go back some day to explore the whole complex more carefully.

The river through Bankok was beginning to overflow, cancelling our river boat tour.

We had lunch in this riverside hotel,

where the terrace café was already flooded.

Our third temple was famous for the gigantic Buddha image below.

We went on a second tour that night, which took us to this large theater, similar to Radio City Music Hall.

We couldn’t take photos of the spectacular (and long) pageant, because they made everyone check all cameras.

A longtime dream come true!
