This is a huge city and we were on our own, so we didn’t really get to see it all.

The air pollution was heavy the whole time we were there, but we still saw some wonderful things.

The Bamboo Garden Hotel was once a mansion in a
local neighborhood – far away from the tourist area.

The Hutong neighborhood around our hotel.

We tried to get a train to the Great Wall, but no one spoke English and there were no English signs, so we gave up.

The Starbucks, yay!

A long climb up the Drum Tower, to hear a LOUD drum concert.

The lake was a long way around, so we took a rickshaw to
Prince Kung’s Palace.

Two girls wanted a picture with David.  They didn’t speak English.

A local walking her 3 dogs.

The difficult-to-get-to entrance to Tiananmen Square.

Lots of Chinese tourists on the huge square.

An old map of the Forbidden City.

This is the second of the plazas shown on the map to the left.
You could spend a whole day here and not see everything.

We took a Night in Beijing Tour.  The long bus ride the theater showed us how HUGE the city was.

The Chinese Acrobat Show was absolutely amazing.
