Upon the Baltic Sea

Oslo, Norway

September 6, 2008

For the first time, our ship docked right in the city, so we could look out our balcony

and see the ancient walls of the city.  And everything was walking distance from the boat.

(And on the left, you can see the results of 10 days of eating meals on the Crown Princess.)

Oslo is a fascinating city, very different from the others.

The emphasis is on ships and sculpture, and some unique architecture.

A huge variety of ships were seen in the harbor.

And a large variety of sculptures were on display

all over the city.

I believe the above statue is by an artist Gustav Vigeland.

VIGELAND SCULPTURE PARK,

Don’t  Miss it!

On our tram, returning from the Vigelandespark,

we met a woman with a huge amount of packages.

We helped her off the bus, carrying 2 heavy bags, and

she led us to the wonderful flea market.

Countless “treasures” and not a tourist in sight.

Henrik Ibsen stands before Norway’s National Theater.

As we said “goodbye” to our final port-of-call, we knew our fabulous trip was about to be over.

But the voyage out of Oslo held more wonders, with the fjords, islands and sailboats.

(We didn’t see this coming in, since it was dark and early in the morning.)

We docked in Copenhagen at 5:00 AM, and we were disembarked by 5:45.

Then we rushed to a train to the airport, to catch a 9:00 AM flight, back to New Jersey.

What an amazing 2 weeks, which we will never forget.
