Our trip to Europe '98

These are a few snapshots (really, just a few) of our trip this fall to

Munich, Germany; Innsbruck, Austria; and Venice, Italy

Munich

In the main square of Munich, the fireman were putting on a demonstration for the public.
They took people up for a close look at the automata of the City Hall Clock Tower

Innsbruck

During our say in this charming city, nestled in between the Austrian and Italian Alps,
it was cloudy, until our final morning when the sun came out and revealed the glorious scenery.

Our trip from there by train through the Alps
was one of the most breathtaking journeys I've ever experienced.

Italian Tyrol

In Innsbruck, we met up with Dr. Prof. Hartmut Glossman and his charming wife, Eve, who took us into the Italian Tyrol, a German speaking part of Northern Italy.

We all had a splendid meal in Gufidaun, a small village at the top of an Alp.

And then there's Venice!

There is no way that a few words and snapshots can capture the magic and beauty of this fabled city.

It begins at the train station (behind the bridge) and a ride on the Vaporetto (river bus)
down the Grand Canal to our hotel.

There are no cars, or even bicycles, in Venice. You walk or take a boat, everywhere,
and around every corner of the twisted streets, over every bridge, is a beautiful sight.

There are only three bridges over the Grand Canal.
This "traghetto" is another way to get across.

The Bridge of Sighs
Prisoners crossed that bridge from the
splendid Ducal Palace to the grim prison cells.

It was a grand trip!
